Goliath Tigerfish On The Congo River: 5 days fishing tour

  • Duration: 5 Days (approx.)
  • Location: Kinshasa
  • Product code: tiger1

Five day fishing for goliath tigerfish in Congo

The goliath tigerfish is one of the most mythical fish in both freshwater and the ocean and with good reason. This fish is an enormous beast with a length which can easily surpass 150 cm and records up to 70 kilo. It has an impressive set of sharp teeth which are replaced every few days and which are used to attack its prey with vicious force, ripping and tearing its flesh with powerful moves.

The goliath tigerfish is the biggest of all the tigerfish and the biggest species are found in the Congo River and its side-rivers in both Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville. There are also tigerfish found in the Lualaba, Lake Upemba and Lake Tanganyika. Sharp riverbends are probably the reason why the goliath tigerfish hadn’t been able to go further up north on the Congo River in the past. The goliath tigerfish loves strong flows in deep river channels or open lake sections and prefers open water over the bottom.

Other tigerfish can be found in the Zambezi River, the Niger delta and many other rivers all over Africa in Zambia, South-Africa, Niger, Tanzania and more. The biggest tigerfish species and the fiercest ones can only be found in the DRC and this on the Congo River.

It is possible to book a sports fishing tour on the Congo River to fish for goliath tigerfish through our agency in Kinshasa. We offer accommodation at a beautiful private fishing camp two hours by boat north of Kinshasa. Guests can stay at the main lodge or one of the newly built bungalows. On arrival, you are transferred to our fishing camp either by boat on the mighty Congo River (day) or by car (night).

During your stay we will fish for goliath tigerfish in the morning and then again in the late afternoon, which are the best times to c- atch them. You will be assisted by a professional fishing guide and enjoy excellent meals (often by the campfire) which will be provided three times per day. You will have a private room with a comfortable bed and access to a shower with hot water. There is also solar power so you will be able to charge your electronics.

We will go on the river by boat and use small fish as bait. We have a maximum of three guests per stay since it’s not comfortable to be with more people on one boat.
