Goliath Tigerfish On The Congo River: 7 days fishing tour

Deep in the heart of Africa, in the waters of the forever meandering snake penetrating the jungles of the Congo lives one of the most mythical fish known to sports fishermen: the goliath tigerfish. Called mbenga in Lingala, this predator is feared by locals and often seen as an evil spirit due to its large mouth full of sharp teeth, resembling fangs as well as for its aggressive behavior as it doesn’t only attack fish, but also birds, crocodiles and even humans. 

From all the different kinds of tigerfish which can be found in Africa, the goliath tigerfish is the biggest one of them all and can be found in the Congo River and its siderivers with the heaviest species ever recorded being 70 kilo, that’s one hell of a fish and also a pretty scary sight to have this monster in front of you! 

Our agency offers fishing tours for goliath tigerfish on the Congo River starting from Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We offer one day tours and up to one week and even longer. It is also possible to combine your tour with a visit to Kinshasa and other nearby places of interest.

We welcome you at our private fishing camp on the Congo River where we have a main lodge equipped with a shower, kitchen and a comfortable sitting area with view on the Congo River as well and also several bungalows. We can host up to three people at a time for tigerfish fishing. 

Your stay at the fishing camp is full-board and you will be assisted by a professional fishing expert who knows every corner of the Congo River and all the best tricks to get your goliath tigerfish. A few days at the fishing camp are usually sufficient to catch several tigerfish. 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Kinshasa and transfer to our fishing camp 

Arrival at N’Djili Airport and transfer to the lodge, either by boat or overland by 4x4.

  - The best time to fish is from June to September, when the level of the Congo River is at its lowest, but it is possible to fish the whole year round.
